Ahhh Turmeric.... how I love thee!
You may think that you have not had Turmeric before, but if you have ever had a curry you have likely had Turmeric. Turmeric is what gives a curry its rich yellow colour! It is more than just a colour enhancer though. It has vast health benefits as well.


Turmeric contains Curcumin which is a natural anti-inflammatory compound. Inflammation short term is beneficial as it helps the body to fight foreign invaders in the body. However, long term inflammation can cause disease.

Turmeric can improve brain function, lower cholesterol, lower the risk of heart disease, increases antioxidants in the body, heals wounds, helps to prevent bloating and gas, can improve skin conditions such as eczema, is a natural antiseptic and a blood purifier, helps with a cough, helps the body to fight diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer’s and diabetes.

If there is one herb that you should add to your culinary masterpiece its Turmeric. You can add a dash to almost any meal. I have used it in curries, vegetable bakes, soups, mixed beans, in dressings and marinades. Happy Experimenting!!!
